Black Art Sessions
Black Art Sessions

Black Art Sessions is a series of talks for any black student in an art-track program who is or has ever been interested in working in a gallery or who has ever wondered:

How do I get a job in a gallery? How can I start my own gallery? What would I do as a gallery assistant, registrar, archivist, director or artist liaison? What’s the difference between working in a “gallery” and working in a “museum”? …and anything else you may have been wondering.

This is an opportunity to ask questions you might have about working in the art world.

These are not lectures, rather informal conversations and hopefully the opportunity for black students to have real, professional practice questions answered. These sessions aim to provide clarity on how to secure the best internships, demystify roles within the gallery and museum, and help students navigate the best suited roles for their interests. We will also host talks by friends in the field, based on group interests. Finally, there will be many opportunities to meet, organize, and share resources with each other.

This is FREE and for black students only.

Black Art Sessions was launched in July, 2020 by Ebony L. Haynes to provide information that promotes accessibility in the art world for black students. To date, Black Art Sessions has held 30 sessions for nearly 250 students, and we are proud to see many of our alumni out in the art world.
